I Spy: Dorm Room

Lesson Focus: Vocabulary

The goal of this lesson is to learn new words from context. The setting is in a dorm room. Figure out the meaning of the words based on the description of where they are and what they are. To get the most from this lesson:
(1) Study the picture carefully.
(2) Read and find the words.
(3) Complete the activities
(4) Check your understanding of the words with a dictionary.

More clutter today with this I Spy game! This time, it’s a bit more under control than at the mechanic’s shop or this messy desk. We are in a student’s dorm room, and he has quite neatly packed away his things, but there are still a number of things we are looking for.

Can you find them all? Read each line and find the item described. See how many you can find within 3 minutes! (Oh, and see the full image here.) Start the timer, and let’s go!

  • I spy a USB hub, with 1 of 6 ports used.
  • I spy an empty trash can made of wire mesh.
  • I spy a white charging cable, hanging off the edge.
  • I spy 2 sets of wooden drawers, one with three small labels.
  • I spy a donut cushion with sprinkles you cannot eat.
  • I spy a wilted plant behind two spiked friends.
  • I spy a webcam with a white cowboy hat.
  • I spy a light gray carpet, not vacuumed for 3 months.
  • I spy a rocket that could take you to the moon.
  • I spy a record player on the bottom shelf.
  • I spy a plywood board, used as a simple desktop.
  • I spy a 3d printer, plugged in and ready to go.
  • I spy 4 spools of stuff, white, black, blue-green and vertical.
  • I spy two gray wooly slippers, one on top of the other.
  • I spy a cardboard tube, with something rolled up inside.
  • I spy a carabiner not being used for climbing.
  • I spy two longboards side-by-side, one new, one full of stickers.
  • I spy a red spray bottle with a clear, plastic nozzle.
  • I spy a wall of painted bricks, too many for me to number.
  • I spy a cactus in a pot with pixel hearts.
  • I spy a see-through ruler, in a can of stationery.

That’s the end of the list! Did you get them all before the time ran out?
